If you want to gauge how environmentally friendly certain textile items are—from bedsheets and blankets to carpets and curtains—looking for an OEKO-TEX certification is a great place to start. Below, we’ll take a look at some of our favorite OEKO-TEX-certified blankets you can buy online. Let’s get started!
What is an OEKO-TEX Blanket? Why Use One?
An OEKO-TEX blanket is, simply, a blanket (we’re excluding bedsheets in this article) that has received at least one of OEKO-TEX’s seven certifications. The oldest (arguably most well-known) certification is the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which tests leather and textile products against more than 1,000 substances known to be potentially harmful to humans. A Standard 100 blanket is one product you won’t have to worry about being harmful to you or your kids.

Quince is one of our favorite brands here at Do Good HQ, and this OEKO-TEX blanket is exhibit A. It’s surprisingly breathable but is not derelict in its main duty—keeping you warm!
Highlights
The outer shell is made of viscose, a semi-synthetic material that, in this case, is made from 100% organic bamboo. The blanket’s interior is filled with 100% recycled polyester, so you can be assured it’s not going to feel flat.
Things to Consider
Quince is incredibly transparent and thorough about its sourcing and production processes. If you have a few moments, we highly recommend reading about the company’s story and approach to sustainability.

The second OEKO-TEX blanket on our list also has the STANDARD 100 certification. Its softness cannot be denied. If you want something a little more exciting than white, it also comes in ivory, blue wave, moss, and steel & smoke.
Highlights
We loved that Parachute included a scale on the product page to explain the degrees of warmth you’ll get from their various quilts. This one we’ve identified here is on the warmer end of things, but it’s still as soft as anything you’ll find online.
Things to Consider
We looked all over but could not find a thread count for this quilt – Parachute does not use traditional thread counts to describe its products.

Under The Canopy is another company we come back to time and again for bedding and bath linens. Besides white, this blanket comes in pistachio (a favorite of ours), chambray, fig, stone, and glacier.
Highlights
The unique lyocell composition makes this blanket a highly versatile one—perfect for all seasons. Its threads feature a light dye that gives it an extra layer (literally) of comfort.
Things to Consider
Eucalyptus might be synonymous with “light and flowery” for many people, but Under The Canopy’s line of lyocell blankets are as heavy as quilts should be. Don’t worry about ruining this blanket in the wash, either—it holds up well.

Things to Consider
We think this throw is plenty stylish, but some people might prefer something slightly more elegant or sophisticated. Additionally, we couldn’t find anything that indicated the cotton used to make the throw is certified organic.

Things to Consider
Other blankets on this list are made from more sustainable materials, although some of Thread Talk’s products are made from 100% organic cotton. If we had to guess, we would say that this baby blanket is certified with OEKO-TEX’s STANDARD 100, but we weren’t able to find specifics on which OEKO-TEX certification it has.
How to Choose an OEKO-Tex Blanket
When choosing an OEKO-TEX blanket, you may want to think about the following criteria:
- Return policy. The window of time available to return your product at little-to-no cost can vary by company.
- Utility. Do you live far north of the Tropic of Cancer, where temperatures regularly get below freezing? If so, make sure the blanket you choose packs a punch.
- Care instructions. Some people have neither the time nor energy to iron blankets every time they come out of the dryer. Make sure you can keep up with the product’s recommended upkeep.
If winter is your least favorite season, it might not be much longer with one of these comfortable blankets. Knowing you chose an eco-friendly product can only add to the warm, cozy feeling.
